Catholic Social Teaching– CARITAS in Action

At Our Lady of Mount Carmel, we follow the ‘Caritas in Action’ scheme of work to teach and live out the principles of Catholic Social Teaching. This teaching calls us to work together for the common good, to build a more just and compassionate society, and to uphold the dignity of every human life.

Through this programme, we aim to help our children understand not only global issues such as poverty and inequality, but also to develop a deeper awareness of social justice within our own local community and across the UK.

Each half term, pupils focus on one of the seven key themes of Catholic Social Teaching. They engage with ‘big questions’, exploring how these teachings apply to their lives, and respond through creative, thoughtful work. These reflections and actions are then displayed, allowing pupils to celebrate and express their learning. The themes are carefully structured to be progressive from EYFS through to Year 6, helping pupils grow in their understanding and sense of responsibility as they mature.

He has sent me…to let the oppressed go free.”
