Our Charity Work
‘To love one another as He has loved you’
John 13:35
At Our Lady of Mount Carmel, we take great pride in supporting local charities and reaching out to those in need, living out the Catholic mission to serve others. As a faith-filled school community, we are guided by the Church’s social teaching. Through food drives, fundraising initiatives, and volunteer efforts, our school actively contributes to making a positive difference in the lives of others. Inspired by the compassion of Our Lady, we teach our children to care for those around them and to live out Christ’s commandment to love one another as He has loved us (John 13:34). Helping the poor is not only part of our Catholic identity—it is something we are proud to do together as a school.
Here are some of the charities that we support.
‘We Shall Overcome’- Pauline Town
For nearly a decade, the 'We Shall Overcome' charity has been dedicated to supporting the homeless, survivors of domestic abuse, and individuals struggling with poverty in and around Tameside.
Our Laudato Si' Ambassadors invited families in our school community to collect and send in empty crisp packets. The ambassadors then carefully cleaned the packets and repurposed them into survival blankets, which were donated to Pauline Town’s charity ‘We Shall Overcome’ to help those experiencing homelessness.
Mossley Food Bank
At Our Lady's, our gardening club grows and cares for a variety of crops in our allotment. Once they are ready to harvest, we proudly donate the fresh produce to our local food bank to support those in need.
Cornerstones
Each year, our CARITAS Ambassadors lead a school-wide appeal, encouraging the entire community to donate essential items needed at Cornerstones Homeless Shelter.
Saint Vincent De Paul
As a school, we actively collaborate with the Saint Vincent De Paul Charity by organising various fundraising events throughout the year. Our families also generously donate old uniforms, which are upcycled and distributed to those in need. This charity holds a special
place in our hearts, as it provides vital support to vulnerable families within our own school community.
Macmillan
Each year, we host a coffee morning to raise funds for Macmillan. We warmly welcome our families and parishioners into school to join us in supporting this important cause.
St Joseph’s Penny
During Lent, we take part in the St Joseph's Penny Appeal. Our families collect loose change in special money boxes, which the children bring into school during Holy Week. We donate this money to help make a difference to those in need in Greater Manchester.
